Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw peanuts (shelled)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional for a sweet-spicy contrast)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, chili powder, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until all the spices are well mixed.

Step 3

Add the peanuts to the bowl and toss until they are evenly coated with the spice mixture.

Step 4

Spread the peanuts in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Step 5

Bake for 8-10 minutes, stirring halfway through, until the peanuts are lightly roasted and fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 6

Optional: If you want a sweet and spicy version, drizzle the honey over the peanuts during the last 2 minutes of baking.

Step 7

Remove from the oven and let them cool completely. The peanuts will become crisp as they cool.

Step 8

Serve and enjoy your spicy peanuts warm or store them in an airtight container for later.

Recipe tips

Adjust the cayenne pepper to suit your spice tolerance. For milder heat, use less, or substitute with mild paprika. Add a squeeze of lime juice after baking for a zesty twist. For an extra crunch, let the peanuts cool completely before storing them. If you're not a fan of honey, you can also try a light drizzle of maple syrup for a similar sweet contrast.
