Flatbread is one of the simplest and most versatile breads you can make. With just a few pantry staples, you can whip up a batch of soft, chewy flatbreads perfect for wraps, dipping, or eating on their own. Whether you’re making lunch, dinner, or just a snack, this easy recipe can be adapted with your favorite herbs and toppings for a personal twist.
Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Add wet ingredients. Slowly pour in the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. The dough should be soft and slightly sticky.
Knead the dough. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough. Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
Roll out the flatbreads. Using a rolling pin, flatten each dough ball into a thin round, about 1/4 inch thick.
Cook the flatbreads. Heat a dry skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each flatbread for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown spots appear and the bread puffs slightly.
Serve your flatbreads warm with your favorite dips, as wraps, or alongside a main dish.
Mix in herbs like rosemary or thyme, or garlic powder to the dough for extra flavor. Brush the cooked flatbread with melted butter and sprinkle with sea salt or grated cheese for a delicious finish. If the dough feels too dry, add a bit more water, a tablespoon at a time. If it’s too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour.
