Ingredients

  • Pastry

  • 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • Topping

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Egg Wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the Oven. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

Prepare the Cream Cheese Filling. In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, 1/3 cup of sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 egg until smooth and creamy.

Step 3

Prepare the Puff Pastry. Roll out each sheet of puff pastry slightly to remove any creases. Place one sheet of puff pastry on the lined baking sheet.

Step 4

Add the Filling. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the puff pastry sheet, leaving a 1/2-inch border on all sides. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top, pressing gently to seal the edges.

Step 5

Apply the Egg Wash. Beat 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water. Brush this egg wash lightly over the top pastry sheet for a golden finish.

Step 6

Cinnamon Sugar Topping. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the pastry.

Step 7

Bake. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed.

Step 8

Cool and Slice. Let the pastry cool slightly, then cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.

Recipe tips

Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened to achieve a smooth filling. Brush a little melted butter on the edges of the pastry before baking to enhance the golden color and add a touch of richness. Add a splash of lemon juice or zest to the cream cheese mixture for a subtle tangy flavor.
