Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 4 oz tomato juice
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes of hot sauce (like Tabasco)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of smoked paprika or celery salt (optional)
  • Ice cubes
  • Celery stick, lemon wedge, pickles, or olives for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the glass. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes. This will chill the drink and give it the perfect temperature.

Step 2

Mix the base. In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika (if using). Shake or stir gently to blend all the ingredients.

Step 3

Pour the drink. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over the ice cubes.

Step 4

Garnish and serve. Add your garnish of choice—celery stick, lemon wedge, pickles, or olives—and serve immediately.

Recipe tips

Adjust the hot sauce to your preferred level of heat. Add more for extra kick or reduce for a milder taste. Try adding bacon strips, pickled vegetables, or shrimp for a more elaborate garnish. Using fresh lemon juice instead of bottled will give the cocktail a brighter flavor. For an extra-cold drink, chill the glass beforehand in the freezer for a few minutes.
